So I didn't manage to get a place working at New Blood. I didn't think I would with the stiff competition but you have to enter these things or why bother trying to get a job in advertising?
On another note
Me and James entered the D&AD Graduate Academy competition, which would be an amazing opportunity. The brief was to encourage the use of HP within the creative community. Apple is the brand of choice, even though it's generally more expensive for slower technology, less memory and infamously breaking after your 3 year guarantee runs out. (She says currently writing this post on a Macbook Pro).
We've had a shed load of deadlines recently and so developed the concept and produced our advert in less than a week. Pressure junkie. After researching HP and their workstations we discovered that they hard sell on the technical side of the products, which goes right over my head. Creatives want to know that they can run photoshop, whilst listening to music, surfing the internet, social networking and probably doing an array of other tasks.
Our idea was a viral advert, which started as an animation describing the new HP workstations. The voice over is epic and talks absolute nonsense really, because let's face it how many of us actually know what all these technical terms mean? Then James pushes the animation off the screen and starts describing why he loves his HP, pretty much the reasons I described earlier: I love my HP because I can Create, Make, Listen and Play. All at the same time. Our tagline is "Why Complicate things?"
The video itself was quite basic, as I couldn't get access to Final Cut and I basically had to teach myself After Affects in a day, did I mention I also have a full time job? So it was an extremely busy week. But we're both really happy with the results, it reflects the idea perfectly. I'll be posting it soon, watch out for the ever so small dig at Apple..
