New Blood: Fail

So I didn't manage to get a place working at New Blood. I didn't think I would with the stiff competition but you have to enter these things or why bother trying to get a job in advertising?

On another note
Me and James entered the D&AD Graduate Academy competition, which would be an amazing opportunity. The brief was to encourage the use of HP within the creative community. Apple is the brand of choice, even though it's generally more expensive for slower technology, less memory and infamously breaking after your 3 year guarantee runs out. (She says currently writing this post on a Macbook Pro).

We've had a shed load of deadlines recently and so developed the concept and produced our advert in less than a week. Pressure junkie. After researching HP and their workstations we discovered that they hard sell on the technical side of the products, which goes right over my head. Creatives want to know that they can run photoshop, whilst listening to music, surfing the internet, social networking and probably doing an array of other tasks.

Our idea was a viral advert, which started as an animation describing the new HP workstations. The voice over is epic and talks absolute nonsense really, because let's face it how many of us actually know what all these technical terms mean? Then James pushes the animation off the screen and starts describing why he loves his HP, pretty much the reasons I described earlier: I love my HP because I can Create, Make, Listen and Play. All at the same time. Our tagline is "Why Complicate things?"

The video itself was quite basic, as I couldn't get access to Final Cut and I basically had to teach myself After Affects in a day, did I mention I also have a full time job? So it was an extremely busy week. But we're both really happy with the results, it reflects the idea perfectly. I'll be posting it soon, watch out for the ever so small dig at Apple..

Unwanted experience.

I had my first dealings with an insurance company today. It was only over the phone but Jesus they were scary, I felt like I was being interrogated. All for a broken, poorly made, MDF wardrobe.

Probably invented by a man..

Top Shop's new augmented reality thingy. Allows you to see yourself wearing an outfit without the bother of trying it on. I think it's a great idea.. especially when the summer months come, nobody wants to be stuck in a sweaty changing room with a curtain that doesn't quite close properly.

New Blood

I applied to work at the D&AD New Blood event this year.

Anyone for a Pimms?

The new Pimms summer party campaign has launched. So far I've come across the funny TV spot which highlights the best and worst bits of summer in Britain (I'll be counting how many socks and sandals I see) and the new website. I like the campaign it's just a shame I dislike Pimms, I haven't got much of a sweet tooth. Enjoy.

RIP CRUSHA CATS

Hello Cravendale cats. Probably the cutest advert ever. Cravendale never disappoint. I'm glad they've decided to use a new idea though, the old ads were getting a little stale.

homesick

I don't 'arf miss my little sisters. They live in Nottingham & I'm all the way in Manchester so I hardly get to see them. They're little monsters and I love them :)

why battle with central london?

These are some of the final ads for my Westfield Stratford City campaign. The main problem was advertising to people who wouldn't go to a shopping center as a cool alternative to trendy areas of London like Carnaby Street and Camden. I therefore had to focus on the convenience of Stratford City and use humor for them to relate to the campaign.

The idea behind the campaign was why bother with the hassle of central London, the bad weather, the crowded streets, the transport, etc, when there's Stratford City with everything you need on your doorstep.
